This seems relevant again in light of the news of the end / possible rebirth of Chi-town Daily News: http://gapersblock.com/ac/2009/09/11/chi-town-daily-news-folds/

Interesting, but with or without the undercurrent of posts about management's role in the current situation (see: http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/news-opinion/2009/09/chi-town-daily-news-confessions-of-an-ex-staffer.html), it means nothing for the nonprofit news space, positive or negative.

Also, heresy #2 and my promised "how not to raise money" post are still TK. Dayjob and eye surgery have conspired to slow down my writing a bit.

Mike, solid post. I'd love to hear more about the mistakes & lessons you learned about raising capital. What made you 'overmatched?' If you could turn back the clock, what would you have done differently on the finance side?

Glad to see this one picking up some link/Twitter traction. If you enjoy, be sure to come back for part 2, which will be at least 17% more heretical.

[...] Heresy du jour #1: There are no trends in start-ups Mike Orren Anyone who’s worked on or invested in a start-up will tell you that there are two parts to the business: the concept and the execution. While both are critically important, I’ll argue that a flawed concept with great execution has a better shot than the inverse. [...]
